SPERRY'S

Sperry's has a wonderful display of font. The light 'old fashioned' green gives you the feel of the 90's, in which this store existed. The sign is vertical in the corner of the building. The letters on it used to light up and be luminous.
The Sperry's font that's carved in the brick on the other hand is just beautiful. It gives you the feel that it may have be hand done. It's a way to make it permanent, because Sperry's was to be forever.

Kate's

Now this sign is NICE! They used an almost handwritten script font to give the feel of personalized ownership. The rest accents it with being both bold yet simple.

I also really like the logo and I think it works for this business. It's easy to use and not too complex or distracting from the company name.

Classic

I like the way this sign is made. It uses a center focus which gives it that hard to miss feature. I love how the first letter and last letter are bigger than the middle, it pulls you right in. I also like the sarif they used because it's simple. The "Classic" in the middle is also perfectly chosen font, because in a way it brings you back to classic baseball, and the days of coca colas first showing.

Cajun Gator

I actually really like the type and display of the type from this new place. The rust on the entry way sign makes it seem almost classic, and somewhat swampy. They use the gator throughout their designs and it works. The font is simple and not hard to read and it works for the environment of the restaurant.

Being a Critic.

I've learned that studying graphic design, typography, and design in general... makes you a critic, not by choice, but automatically.
Everything around us is a design element... words, colors, texture, building structures, items, etc....
even the computer you're looking at. [;
Being a major of art, I'm constantly looking around and judging the things I see.
I may like them, I may hate them, but I have a clear opinion.
And hey, if I don't like it, I'm obviously not the audience the company was seeking out,
if I'm attracted to it, it's a totally different story.
Fact is, if you're a real artist, or designer... You're a critic of all that is around you.
And even more a critic to yourself, and your own work.

Zines

Zines are little books about EVERYTHING.
The categories for what you can put in them are endless,
They can consist of anything from the core of the Earth to the Sun in the sky.

We're making our own in my college class,
I'm very excited about it.
It gives us the freedom to guide our own road that can lead wherever our minds may wonder.
What are our thoughts?
What do we like?
WE CAN express that!!
And it's exciting! :D

Marilyn Monroe Pop Art

This is my first time making pop art, and I think I did an awesome job! WOO! [:

Signal Returns Press

My college class got to visit the Signal Returns Press in Detroit. This was an awesome experience. The lady who was there and showed us around knew what she was talking about, and described it well. She showed us all the presses and described how they worked. She also showed us how it was done, and we all got to try using the german press. THAT was fun, and to see the results was exhilarating! It's awesome that it's all handmade, and you can feel the texture of the ink on the paper.  Printing press is direct contact to the artist, which makes it so indescribably unique, I LOVE IT!

Event Flyer for in class project.
Handmade Illustration

My Type.

Creating my own type was very fun, and actually something I enjoy doing.
By using the pen tool, I was able to make straight, flowing lines to make my type the best it could be.
I created this typeface because it reminds me of tattooing.
I want to be a tattoo artist someday, and this exercise helped show me how to create text on my own instead of copying already made fonts.
Handmade fonts allow an atmosphere of a unique style, and give out what no one else has yet created.

Flyers

Lately, I been gaining experince in creating and putting together event flyers.
I honestly don't think that they'd be as good as they have been without the lessons and teachings from college, with wonderful instructors.

Event flyers are fun, and it is art all in itself.

My latest flyer I've created is for a Halloween event.
Check it out [:
